Industrial Action – 1st February 2023

January 27, 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you are all safe and well today. As you know by now, the National Education Union (NEU) has voted for strike action for teaching staff on 1 February 2023, 28 February 2023, 15 March 2023 and 16 March 2023.

Teaching staff at our school have a legal right to take part in the planned strike action, however, it is important to emphasise that the dispute and strike action is not specific to our school.   The industrial action is in relation to the NEU’s dispute with the Government over the nationally agreed pay rises, when considering the pressures faced by staff with the increased cost of living which we are all experiencing.  It is a national issue, affecting all schools in England.

Staff at The Link School have informed us of their intentions to participate in the strike and I am now in a position to confirm plans for 1st February; I anticipate that the same plans will remain in place for the other strike days, but I will confirm this nearer the time.

For school to remain fully open, I have to be satisfied that we have enough staff in school to comply with our legal obligations and duty of care to students. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case and the plans for 1st February 2023 (next Wednesday) are as follows:

School will remain open to all our primary learners, and learners in Year 7, 8 and 11. Hudson Road and Oxclose Hub – will also be open to all learners.

Year 9 and 10 – The Link School will remain closed for learners in Year 9 in Springwell Dene, 10A, 10B and 10C at Pallion. Work will be provided for our learners to complete through Century Learning, tasks will be uploaded to the platform prior to the 1st February 2023. Those pupils on one-to-one tuition will still have one to one sessions as per their normal timetable and those learners who attend vocational placements are still able to attend those.

Free School Meals

If your child is in receipt of free school meals and they are affected by strike action we will provide the equivalent free school meals voucher to you.

I will be in touch to confirm arrangements before the other planned strike days but you may wish to ensure that you have childcare arrangements in place.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding with this matter.

Kind Regards

Donna Walker
