INSET Day / Industrial Action

June 23, 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

INSET Day

As you will be aware from our school calendar, our last INSET day of the school year is scheduled for Monday 3rd July 2023. School will be closed to all learners.

Industrial Action

Unfortunately, in addition the National Education Union (NEU) has voted for further strike action for teaching staff on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023. Teaching staff at our school have a legal right to take part in the planned strike action, however, it is important to emphasise that the dispute and strike action is not specific to our school.

The industrial action is in relation to the NEU’s dispute with the Government over the nationally agreed pay rises, when considering the pressures faced by staff with the increased cost of living which we are all experiencing. It is a national issue, affecting all schools in England.

For school to remain fully open, I have to be satisfied that we have enough staff in school to comply with our legal obligations and duty of care to students. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case and the plans for Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023 are as follows:

School will remain open to all our primary learners at Springwell Dene, and learners in Year 7, 8 and 10. Year 10 learners will continue to attend Pallion as normal.

Oxclose Hub – will be closed to all learners who attend the hub.

Year 9 – The Link School will remain closed for learners in Year 9. Work will be provided for our learners to complete through Century Learning, tasks will be uploaded to the platform prior to the 5th July 2023. Those pupils on one-to-one tuition will still have one to one sessions as per their normal timetable and those learners who attend vocational placements are still able to attend those.

Free School Meals

If your child is in receipt of free school meals and they are affected by strike action, we will provide the equivalent free school meals voucher to you.

I appreciate that for some of our learners this will be a disruptive week but I thank you for your cooperation and understanding with this matter.

Kind Regards

Donna Walker
