May Half Term Information

May 27, 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families continue to be safe and well, as we continue to follow the Government Road Map to emerge from Covid-19 restrictions. This half term has been a busy one I would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and during this time.

Y11 Leavers

The school will close to pupils on Thursday 27th May 2021 at 1pm.  On Friday 28th May 2021, we will be running our INSET Day which will allow us to quality assure all of Centre Assessed Grades. We have been incredibly impressed by how hard our Y11 pupils have engaged especially throughout the assessment period – I am so proud of each one of them.

Post 16 Destination Support

I know many of our pupils have been working with our Careerwave advisor, Alexandra Potter, to determine their Post 16 plans. It is lovely hearing what your children are applying for and what courses they have been offered.

From Tuesday 8th June 2021, we are offering ‘drop-in sessions’ every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon with our careers lead. These will run until the end of the Summer Term to support any of our Year 11 pupils in applying for college, apprenticeships, job applications etc. These sessions will be available from 1.30pm but you must ring the school to arrange an appointment first – this allows us to ensure that we can keep people safe.

Moving forward, our one-to-one tutor team will be in touch to discuss these sessions too and how we will continue to support your child throughout the Summer and Autumn Terms.

Covid – 19 May Half Term Guidance

The DFE have issued guidance on the 26th of May to make all staff, parents, and carers aware of the following information.

Where a pupil or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in school, the school should not be contacted. Parents and carers should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.

·         For the first 6 days after teaching ends, if a pupil or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school, the school is asked to assist in identifying close contacts and advising self-isolation, as the individual may have been infectious whilst in school.

·         If your child attends Springwell Dene, please ring Dave Bromby on 07825053020

·         If your child attends Pallion, please ring Rob Giles on 07780004701.

·         This will only need to take place until Wednesday 2nd June 2021.

Free School Meal Vouchers
We will be providing those families who are entitled to Free School Vouchers with £20 supermarket voucher to cover the costs of FSM over the holidays. These have been emailed or posted out during this week.

Mindful Moments Drop In Sessions

Holiday drop-in mindfulness appointments will be available on Wednesday 2nd June 2021, between 9am – 3pm. Please contact Nicole to make an appointment – 07887588997

Secondary Pupils – Home Testing

Throughout this term, we have been completing lateral flow tests in school twice a week. It is important for pupils to keep testing through the May Half Term holiday to manage the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), as part of a regular habit of testing at home every 3-4 days (twice a week). We suggest that tests are carried out on a Monday and a Friday.

Pupils will receive a pack of 3 or 7 tests in a box with a leaflet on how to take the test and report the results. The result of each test needs to be reported using the NHS Test & Trace self-report.

Website: https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

After the May half term, in line with Government Guidance, we will no longer be running lateral flow tests in school, these will be replaced by home testing.

Parents will also need to tell the school the result of each test, if they are positive.

Training Days

We would like to remind parents/carers of the date of our remaining training day to be taken on Friday 2nd July 2021.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your support this half-term in ensuring a safe and purposeful within the classroom. Despite everything, our children and young people have continued to impress us with their eagerness to get involved in all that we have had to offer– we could not be prouder of them.

On behalf of all the staff here at The Link School, I wish you a safe and restful May half term and look forward to welcoming our pupils back on Monday 7th June 2021.

Yours sincerely,

Donna Walker
