Plans for Industrial Strike Action

February 16, 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,
As you know, the National Education Union (NEU) has voted for strike action for teaching staff on 1 February 2023, 28 February 2023, 15 March 2023 and 16 March 2023. Teaching staff at our school have a legal right to take part in the planned strike action, however, it is important to emphasise that the dispute and strike action is not specific to our school. The industrial action is in relation to the NEU’s dispute with the Government over the nationally agreed pay rises, when taking into account the pressures faced by staff with the increased cost of living which we are all experiencing. It is a national issue, affecting all schools in England.
We have once again undertaken a review of the number of staff who will be in school that day in order to plan. Whilst this will once again cause some disruption, I have to be satisfied that we have enough staff in school to comply with our legal obligations and duty of care to students. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case and the plans for 28th February 2023 are as follows:
For school to remain fully open, I have to be satisfied that we have enough staff in school to comply with our legal obligations and duty of care to students. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case and the plans for Tuesday 28th February 2023 are as follows:

School will remain open to all our primary learners, and learners in Year 7, 8 and 11. Hudson Road and Oxclose Hub – will also be open to all learners.

Year 9 and 10 – The Link School will remain closed for learners in Year 9 in
Springwell Dene, 10A, 10B and 10C at Pallion. Work will be provided for our learners to complete through Century Learning, tasks will be uploaded to the platform prior to the 28th February 2023. Those pupils on one-to-one tuition will still have one to one sessions as per their normal timetable and those learners who attend vocational placements are still able to attend those.

Free School Meals
If your child is in receipt of free school meals and they are affected by strike action webwill provide the equivalent free school meals voucher to you. I will be in touch to confirm arrangements before the other planned strike days but you may wish to ensure that you have childcare arrangements in place.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding with this matter.

Kind Regards
Donna Walker
