Rules regarding self-isolation will change again on Monday 17/01/2022

January 17, 2022

You will know from the news that the rules regarding self-isolation will change again on Monday. As of 17/01/2022 people with COVID-19 can end their self-isolation after 5 full days, as long as they test negative on day 5 and day 6. Anyone isolating with COVID-19 must wait until they have received 2 negative rapid lateral flow tests on 2 consecutive days before they can end isolation. The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of isolation, and the second must be taken the following day. If you are positive on day 5, then a negative test is required on day 6 and day 7 to release from isolation. 2 negative rapid lateral flow tests must be recorded on consecutive days before you can return to work/school if leaving self-isolation earlier than the full 10-day period.

Example – f you are positive on day 5, then a negative test is required on both day 6 and day 7 to release from self-isolation. If you are positive on day 6, then a negative test is required on days 7 and 8, and so on until the end of day 10.

These rules are retrospective, so if someone has tested positive before the 17th, then they should follow the new isolation rules as of Monday.
