Confirmation of arrangements for the end of Term
I hope that you and your families continue to be safe and well at this moment in time. We know that Covid numbers remain high in the community, and we also have staff and students currently absent due to infection.
As you are aware on Wednesday 8 December, the Prime Minister announced the implementation of Plan B of the COVID-19 Response: Autumn and Winter Plan, to reduce pressure on the NHS. Plan B sets out a number of additional measures across society to control transmission of COVID-19. The Government is clear on the critical importance of not disrupting the education of children and young people and the Government will prioritise keeping all education and childcare settings open.
School attendance remains mandatory and all the usual rules continue to apply. Enabling children and young people to attend school regularly continues to be a national priority.
Face coverings should be worn by pupils and students in year 7 and above, staff and visitors in communal areas, unless exempt. Pupils and students in year 7 and above must also wear a face covering when travelling on public transport to and from school, this includes travel on school minibuses.
We strongly encourage over the Christmas holidays, anyone over the age of 11 continues with regular testing (LFD not PCR) and reporting their results. Test kits for use over the Christmas Holidays will be delivered on Reports Day.
All individuals who have been identified as a close contact of a suspected or confirmed case of the Omicron Variant of COVID-19, irrespective of vaccination status and age, will continue to be required to self-isolate and asked to book a PCR Test.
The Government plans to introduce Daily Contact Testing as soon as possible as an alternative to self-isolation for contacts of positive Omicron cases who are fully vaccinated or under the age of 18 years and 6 months.
Reports will be delivered as part of home visits on Friday 17th December, these will take place in a Covid safe manner on your doorstep.
We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to complete our online survey by clicking on the link and answering questions, this link will be shared through email and texts to all parents/carers.

The Link School in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear has achieved Centre of Excellence Status for the sixth time.
The Link School is an alternative provider working with young people across Sunderland. There are two sites that form part of The Link School, Springwell Dene, for pupils in Key Stages One, Two and Three, and Pallion, which provides education for Key Stage 4 Pupils. The Link School’s Motto: ‘Reach’ encapsulates the school’s core values of “Respect, Effort, Achieve, Communication and Happy and Healthy” to provide a clear, holistic vision for all. The Headteacher explains how they aim to ‘Reach’ everyone through their inclusive approach including pupils, staff, parents, carers, and the wider community. The staff aim to:
“give the pupils high aspirations because they don’t have them for themselves.”
The Heads of School shared their inclusive approach, explaining that the pupils
“need someone to care about them and we do. Nothing is too much trouble.”
There is a solution-focused culture and they “do not tolerate failure; it is not an option.”
School closes for the Christmas break at 12.30 pm on Friday 17th December 2021 and reopens on Tuesday 4th January 2022.
I want to thank you all for your support and understanding after what has been a very challenging term. I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in all in the New Year.
Please continue to stay safe and well.
