Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

Support for social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs may be required when children and young people experience difficulties that affect their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships or ability to engage with learning. SEMH needs can present in a variety of ways, including anxiety, low mood, attachment difficulties, trauma, challenges with emotional regulation or behavioural responses that impact on learning and social interaction. Some children and young people may require short-term support, while others may need more targeted or long-term interventions to help them develop resilience, self-confidence, positive relationships and strategies to manage their emotions, enabling them to access learning and reach their full potential.
